What's inside Tumblr for Windows Phone?

The Windows Phone version of Tumblr behaves much like the iOS and Android incarnations of the app. The app allows you to instantly share text, photos, quotes, links, chat, or video with other Tumblr users.

Tumblr for Windows Phone has a section where you can view your Tumblr blog and access other blogs you are following, plus an Explore section where you can discover new creative stuff on Tumblr based on topics.

The Manage section of the app allows you to view information about your account. You can also activate a feature that displays the latest images from Tumblr on your Windows Phone lock screen, which is rather neat.

According to the developer, new Tumblr content can be set to update on the app's live tile, but during our tests his option seemed to be missing.

Is it easy to use?

Without question, Tumblr for Windows Phone is very simple to get to grips with. The whole idea of microblogging is about posting stuff to the internet very quickly, and this app facilitates that well.

With a single tap you can open up the posting screen, then you just choose what type of content you want to add (text, photo, link, etc.), enter your content and upload. For photo and videos you can capture and upload directly from the device.

Browsing content is very easy as well, and there's a search function to help you pinpoint the kind of Tumblr content you'd like to see.

Tight design

The design of the Tumblr interface on Windows Phone is great. Scrolling through the 'explore' area feels a lot smoother than it does on iOS and Android. The preview images in this section include animated gifs that play as you scroll, which really brings the app to life.

We did experience some issues with multimedia content on the Tumblr dashboard not loading properly, which is quite annoying and ruins the otherwise perfect visuals of the app.

The verdict

The Windows Phone Tumblr client makes microblogging quick and fun.
